Cornerstone Christian Academy - High School Challenge participant
Here are some pictures of the boat being constructed by Cornerstone
Christian Academy. This effort is under the direction of Duncan
Schaefer and he has around 14 regulat students who attend at various
building meetings. I visted the shop after the Worlds and the boat has
it's bilge panels in place now and they are working on putting the
supports for the deck in. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of it
showing this. These pictures were taken about two weeks before the
Worlds in Tampa, so that can give you a general time frame as were they
might be by now. Duncan told me he hopes to have this boat in the water
by June. There is also a group from the Atlanta Yacht Club refinishing
an older boat, number 3882. They are under the direction of my brother
who runs their youth program and he informed me they will be at the Sam
Myers for their inaugural appearance in a Fireball. Duncan and I will
have our respective groups at Pymatuning in May to get them started in
training for the Challenge Cup in September. We are hoping they will
attend at least two regattas during the summer in an effort to get
ready. In addition to this they will be allowed to sail at Pymatuning
as Junior members for only $10.00 this summer and participate in their
summer and fall series. Duncan has three Fireballs at his disposal and
I have two so we should have a nice size student fleet to practice with.
That is if everything works out as to our plan. Anyway I thought you
two might be interested in these photos as they represent some other
group other then Jefferson-Morgan building a school related Fireball.
Have a good evening, and we will be talking to you.
