We had five boats registered for the Central Districts at Ruidi Resv. near Aspen Colo. July 16/17. It turned out to be a 3 boat race however after one failed to show and another almost sank after the first day of racing. Andi Cseh's borrowed boat had its deck separate from the hull in a high wind capsize and had to be towed in submerged with the tanks full of water. The good news is Andi and crew were unphased by the experience and ended up buying the boat and have since replaced the deck. We had good strong winds the entire week-end and the remaining 3 boats created quite a buzz at the regatta with some wild fast planning with the 3 of us usually overlapped or very close together. The final outcome was decided in the final race in flat-out trapezing with less than a second between Miller and Boeve . We did not know who won untill we asked the committee. Great fun! At dinner and happy hour some were asking about the boat and I think if we had a new boat builder in the U.S. I could have sold a couple right there. As it turns out we will have a new owner of one of the older boats. Its great to showcase the Fireball when conditions are favorable. Congratulations to Peter Wirth as regional Champ!
