FANFARE - Nepean Sailing Club - Sept 6,7

We had a little bit of everything this weekend. Saturday started off with a real chill in the air and the first two races were held in light and shifty winds. Then - POW - the wind came in between races 2 and 3. Big vertical gusts hitting the water and spreading out in catspaws. Lots of fun surfing around waiting for the start - unfortunately this took about an hour while the RC waited for the winds to settle down while the sun warmed things up to sunburn weather. Eventually 3 more races were held in the stronger conditions. The wind had swung to the south-west, putting the windward mark not far off the shore (ie: still shifty conditions, but with full trapezing conditions).

Sunday saw the absence of a few competitors that had had other plans, but the addition of one new boat on the course. There was a postponement on shore for about 45 minutes while waiting for the breeze to come across the river from Quebec. Four races were held in the northerly. Conditions ranged from light to moderate, and still shifty but not as bad as Saturday.

This was to be the first half of the annual Ottawa-Montreal challenge, but the only out-of-town boat came from Toronto (thanks guys for coming up!).
