2004 Fanfare – Sept 11/12 Nepean Sailing Club.
Sharing the course with 5o5s and Albacores, the Race Committee really kept us hopping this weekend with 11 races over 2 days. As soon as all the boats in one fleet would finish, the warning gun would fire for that fleet’s 3 minute start sequence (the consistently last 5o5 was given the "no time to pee" award). After an hour’s postponement Saturday morning waiting for wind, we drifted out to the race course and the RC timed the window perfectly getting in one quick race in the light northerly before it died as the race finished. Another half hour of bobbing, and the wind clocked 180 degrees and came in from the south where it settled for the rest of the day. By Sunday it was back to the northwest for the whole day. Winds were challenging, to say the least, over the weekend. Predominately light air conditions where finding and staying in pressure was the key. Tom & Joe did gave their usual excellent performance, but the racing was closer than the results would indicate – there was only one race where they lead from start to finish, and most of the boats in the regatta had the chance to lead at at least one mark rounding.
