THURSDAY There were eight Fireballs on the starting line for the last official evening race of the season. A number of people expressed interest in sailing on Thursday evening. We can set up our own informal course, or just tune against each other. If you are interested, please be at the club by 5:30 pm. There will be no Mix and Match, but if you are looking for crew or a ride, please let the group know. FANFARE The Nepean Sailing Club is hosting the FANFARE regatta September 11th and 12th. This event will be used for the Ontario Fireball Championships. A strong Montreal presence would be terrific. Please put the event on your agenda. COACHING We have arranged for Andrew Davies to provide coaching prior to and during our Screwball/Canadian Nationals Championship Regatta. This should prove to be an excellent opportunity to improve our game, identify areas that need work, and bring us to a more internationally competitive standard. The format is being developed, but will include a session on Thursday on the water as well as personalized feedback on whatever happens on the race course on Friday and Saturday. We are very excited about having the chance to improve our boat speed, and to help each of us strategically and tactically. SCREWBALL/CANADIAN NATIONALS Preliminary indications are that we will have an excellent level of turnout for this event. Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta and Quebec sailors have already confirmed their participation, and we would love to see as many Fireballs as possible. In order to plan for our dining needs on Saturday night, we would like to have an indication of who is planning to attend. Please reply as soon as possible. The racing should be excellent, the company fabulous, the entertainment without peer, and the weather entirely unpredictable. Your presence will make this event even better still. HPDO REGATTA The American Yacht Club will be hosting the HPDO Regatta in Rye, New York on October 9th and 10th. For the first time ever, there will be a separate Fireball start. We have 7 Fireballs registered so far, and we have not yet heard from the NY local fleet. There is a deadline for early registration, and those looking for billeting should put in their requests as quickly as possible. This will be the final regatta of the season for the eastern part of North America. |

Congratulations to Joe Jospe and Tom Egli who have finished 12th at the UK Fireball Nationals. Tom and Joe had a 4th in the last race and an 8th in the first race and two other top ten finishes during the week in a very very talent deep Gold Fleet. Well done! Full results are here |

The weather forecast for this past weekend was absolutely perfect for everything except sailing. The wind for Saturday was supposed to be light and variable, and for Sunday calm. The sunshine and warm temperatures were consolation for the lack of wind. As it turned out, the lake was almost perfectly calm on Saturday. Given the forecast, our Race Committee, headed by Don McDonough, made good use of the only zephyr of the day. One race was run, and the short course was shortened, but we met the requirements for an official regatta. Rob Levy and crew Nic Mocchiutti showed their light wind wizardry and earned the bullet. The fleet paddled for home. |

The weather gods smiled again last night. Mix and Match might just be blessed. The winds were challenging with huge shifts and large holes, putting a real premium on concentration and observation. But it was warm and we had enough breeze to get the crews out on the wire for at least part of the time. We had two new M&M sailors, Jon Driver and Seneva Caron. Once again, we would have had a 3rd new participant, but we were one helm shy to allow Celine to join us. If anyone wants to come and sail in Mix and Match, please try and be at the club by 5:30 pm. Results for last night: | Sail No. | Helm | Crew | Finish | | 14911 | Joe Jospe | Tom Egli | 1 | | 15043 | Rob Levy | Jon Driver | 2 | | 14767 | Pierre Carpentier | Kristyn Hope | 3 | | 14465 | Andrew McCrae | Theo McLauchlin | 4 | | 13216 | Nick Mocchiutti | Seneva Caron | 5 | | 14467 | Malcolm Van Haeften | Robert Gallant | 6 | |

There was lots of action last night at our weekly Mix and Match. Eight boats set out from the harbour to race, and we were one helm short of a ninth. I never like to see anyone left on shore, but we had one crew with no ride. It was a spectacular evening to sail with warm temperatures and good winds. The racing was interesting, with lots of interaction between the boats. Andrew and Tom set the pace, and while they led throughout the race, they kept a very close eye on the competition. Boats finished within seconds of each other. It was a lot of fun. Results for the evening: | Hull No | Helm | Crew | Finish | | 14465 | Andrew McCrae | Tom Egli | 1 | | 15043 | Robert Levy | Toby Bryant | 2 | | 14911 | Joe Jospe | Phil Lawee | 3 | | 13216 | Krystyn Hope | Nick Mochiutti | 4 | | 14464 | Pierre Carpentier | Tom Bird | 5 | | 14647 | Eric Owston | Stephanie Whittaker | 6 | | 11153 | Malcolm Van Haeften | Theo McLauchlin | 7 | | 1476 | John Kvras | Mike Moleski | 8 |
